Sick...

I usually get struck with a case of the flu once a year. It lasts no more than 2 (solid and miserable) days and I'm right as rain again for another 12 months. This year it seems I've eluded my 48 hour flu... in exchanges for a 336 hour COLD!! It's been a good 10 years at LEAST since I've had one, so at first I was really confused as to what was wrong with my throat (there-in centered with a MONSTER cough). I've finally taken 3 days off work (last crumbs of my remaining PTO), and doses of the two 'quils' a-plenty and feel almost back to normal, save that odd Quil-a-delic malaise/hangover that comes part and parcel with said. Serina as well has an illness, though hers is based in her stomach, so we haven't gotten together this week.
I met with Property master Wes and Art Director Mari at UofO bookstore to pick out paper stock for the antique journal (we're using two types, an off white for the text and a wispy whiter than white for the sketched part).
Tonight I'm going over the SP again to work out close-up shots for cinematographer Garren to work his wide shot list off of and hopefully come up with an idea for a scene at the end to ease the crew into the cave for the climax.
No pat 'out'... I'M SICK, OK?!?

Has it been 10 months already?!?!

I haven't posted since last May because just after my most recent post (as hinted at by the first part of my favorite Sartre quote foreshadowed in the post's title), all of the actors but two quit for reasons I won't and for many reasons CAN'T go into (primadonnas/confusing excuses/waffling), so the project kinda flew apart not unlike Steve Austin on the runway... There was a brief resurgence in August, based on the strengths of our Web and EFX team, until just after the meeting per, our Webmistress decided to quit as well. At that point, the word, "F***" pretty much extensively entered every sentence, nay, THOUGHT about the project that I had, so I put it out of my head for several months.
Over the late fall and winter, Serina, the EFX mistress and I began to work once again on the practicals, as that was already money and time spent, and we figured that we might as well go forward with those, even if we weren't going to use them for Unbirthen'd.
A couple months ago, Henry Weintraub, another (in his case already successful) local low budget horror film maker from 531 productions, brought Lloyd Kaufman to town to present his "Make Your Own Damned Movie" workshop. As you may or may not know, his book, "Everything I know about Film making I Learned from The Toxic Avenger" book is what initially inspired this project. I decided to go as, A) I love and highly respect Lloyd and what he's accomplished and B), I figured that if anything was to resurrect my confidence in this project, it would be gleaned from the man who inspired it's inception. Low and Behold... IT DID!
We are now back in FULL SWING (even more so than before) with a new phase of the project. The workshop opened our eyes to how much needless time, trouble and basically "bilng" we had weighing it and us down in wasteful mire and I've rethunk the whole Kit and Caboodle, cutting off all the extra CRAP ($900 cameras over $5000 ones, faking a cave within walking distance of my apartment rather than travelling across the damned state to Bend for real ones, MOST of this website...) and we're wasting little if any time/money/resources on anything that doesn't directly apply to capturing sound and image...
The EFX studio has 5 current projects on the burners (including coming up with a cheap 'Goo' recipe), we have recast all but two of the parts with friends (IE: people we can count on, rather than acting school prima-donna doo-doo heads), and we have scouted most of the remaining locations including an actual mansion library (hopfully) and have a couple great leads on a cabin.
Per the above mentioned saving of time and energy for getting it in the can rather than side nonsense, this blog won't be as updated as it was in the past (especially with images and such), but I'll try to get a quick update at least once a week and out initial Art Director, Candice B. is coming back to town with an IT degree and she wants to devote a lot of time to the project, so between getting Efx stuff out of her talented soul, I'm going to try to inspire her to put her degree to work as well.
PS: We've recently met the team that have made a local sci-fi comedy on a budget even below our own that absolutely ROCKS. It's called, "Spidertron". CHECK IT OUT!!
